James A. Cherof

Of Counsel

James A. Cherof joined the law firm in 1980 as a corporate and commercial litigator and became a shareholder in 1984 until his retirement in 2021. In his position as Of Counsel to the firm, Mr. Cherof concentrates his practice in the areas of and government law.

Mr. Cherof limits his labor practice solely to the representation of management. He has over thirty years of experience as a contract negotiator in the collective bargaining process and is available to provide training, leadership and legal counsel for the successful negotiation and implementation of collective bargaining agreements on behalf of management.

Mr. Cherof has been recognized for his efforts in the training of management personnel on the legal ramifications of employment discipline, suspension, and termination; workplace discrimination; employee benefits; and application of the Fair Labor Standards Act. He has counseled law enforcement agencies in the specialized area of disciplinary action involving law enforcement personnel. He is available to appear before the Florida Public Employees Relations Commission on matters including unit representation/clarification and the prosecution and defense of unfair labor practice charges. He has successfully guided management in the avoidance and defense of charges of discrimination.

Mr. Cherof served as the City Attorney for the City of Boynton Beach, Florida from 1990 until May 2022.  He has received the highest (AV) rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a nationally recognized rating service for attorneys and has been designated an elite attorney by Florida Trend Magazine.

In May of 2022, Mr. Cherof retired from the full time practice of law but remains Of Counsel to the firm, continuing to provide his expertise when needed.
